MOUNTAIN STATES RANCH RODEO, LLC SANCTIONING REQUIREMENTS
When you sanction your event with the Mountain States Ranch Rodeo (MSRR), you're joining a series that celebrates the working cowboy tradition and connects you to some of the richest and fastest-growing ranch rodeo events across the American West.
Rodeo Sanctioning Rules:
To be sanctioned by MSRR, the hosting ranch rodeo committee will pay a fee of $500
Each Ranch Rodeo must request to be sanctioned each year by MSRR. All requests must be made through the MSRR application process prior to April 30, a concession for a later date may be granted under certain conditions, of each year and forty-five (45) days prior to the requesting event. MSRR will evaluate each sanctioning request based on location, facilities, producer reputation, timing, etc.
All advertising and promotional material produced by each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo shall be required to prominently display the official MSRR logo. MSRR may display banners, up to three (3) at each sanctioned event and also have the right to booth space at any event that provides booths for vendors to display MSRR materials and promote the MSRR finals for each year. Any rodeo that has a Grand Entry must carry a MSRR flag within the Grand Entry if a flag is provided.
Each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo must have onsite an ambulance and emergency medical technician personnel to adequately provide medical attention to any injured rodeo participant during the entire event.
Each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo must provide onsite a veterinarian to assist any injuries to production livestock and contestant livestock in case of animal injury.
Each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo must secure general liability insurance in the minimum amount of $1,000,000.00 showing MSRR as additional insured. This amount must be combined single limit, per occurrence. The sanctioned Ranch Rodeo shall provide proof of insurance to MSRR no less than thirty (30) days prior to the event. If this requirement is not met by providing MSRR officials proof of the insurance thirty (30) days prior to the event, the sanctioning permission may be revoked or insurance to cover MSRR may be obtained by MSRR for the event at the sanctioned Ranch Rodeo’s expense.
Each MSRR sanctioned Ranch Rodeo must include three (3) of the seven (7) approved events by MSRR. The approved events are Team Penning, Pen and Doctoring, Calf Branding, Wild Cow Milking, Team Sorting, Trailer Loading and Stray Gathering. Each sanctioned event may have additional events at their discretion as long as there are three (3) approved events to meet MSRR sanctioning requirements. These events may be run in a scramble format or a single event format. If a scramble event is the chosen format, approval must be granted by MSRR officials.
The sanctioned Ranch Rodeo committee will be responsible for ALL contracts and expenses associated with the production of each event and its entire rodeo promotion costs.
MSRR requires a minimum of six (6) teams competing in the sanctioned Ranch Rodeo. Each team will consist of 4 or 5 team members. Each team competing must begin the rodeo with at least 4 members and may finish the rodeo with 3 members in the event one or two of the team members cannot complete all the events in the rodeo due to unforeseen circumstances such as injury or emergency departure from the event. No substitutions for any team member will be allowed. Individuals are allowed to only compete on one team at each rodeo. If the rodeo producer is not able to obtain the minimum 6 teams, producer may allow contestants to compete on a second team, but the contestant MUST declare only one team as a qualifying team for MSRR finals. The non qualifier team will not be awarded points or a qualification for winning the rodeo. If a non qualifying team wins the rodeo, the qualification will roll down to the next eligible team. A competitor will not be allowed to compete at the finals on more than one team. Each MSRR Finals qualifying team must compete at the finals with the same team roster that was submitted for the qualifying event. In the case that a team member cannot be present at the Finals, MSRR officials will review the individual circumstances for any substitutions and render approval or disapproval of the requesting substitution. ONLY one team substitution will be reviewed and approval is at the sole discretion of the MSRR officials. Substitutions of a team member must be an individual that has competed at a sanctioned MSRR rodeo within the current season, and cannot be qualified for the finals on a separate team.
Each entered team roster must be submitted by the sanctioned Ranch Rodeo to the MSRR office ten (10) days prior to the event being held and must show a minimum of six (6) paid and entered teams with their full team roster included. This is to protect the requirement that the qualifying teams that enter the finals event are the same team entered in each sanctioned qualifier being held throughout the qualifying season. If committee must wait until the event to secure all entries, the submission of the team roster 10 days prior to the event can be waived with MSRR approval.
Each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo must provide to MSRR officials a copy of the official score sheet and results of each sanctioned rodeo with the scores in each event and overall placings of each team competing in the rodeo so points can be awarded. These results must be received by MSRR officials no later than 24 hours via email after the event is held. Failure of the sanctioned Ranch Rodeo to provide the requested score sheets with placings may result in the disqualification of the qualifying team for the MSRR finals.
MSRR will provide an information sheet about the MSRR Finals, when the event will be held and the location of the Finals. Each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo will require their respective rodeo announcer to mention the MSRR Finals and the process that the competing teams in each sanctioned Ranch Rodeo throughout the season must meet to qualify for the Finals.
Each qualifying team for the Finals will be required to pay the assessed entry fee for the Finals. This entry fee will be set by the MSRR officials prior to the date of the first qualifying event to be held each rodeo season and will be the same for all qualifying events/teams. In the event that the qualifying team elects not to enter the Finals event, the next placing team will be invited to enter the Finals and so forth down the placing roster as needed.
The hosting committee may not require any age limits or gender specifications for each team’s roster such as “one person on each team must be under the age of 18 or a female member on the team.” The reason for this rule is the teams may have competed at other sanctioned events to earn a qualification through points, and they MUST be allowed to compete with their original team members.
